Teachers Day, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Birthday

India celebrates September 5 as Teachers' day. It is the birthday of India’s first vice president and second president, Bharat Ratna Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Radhakrishnan was a noted scholar and philosopher who introduced the western philosophy into Indian schools of thought. He is the most prominent philosopher of past century who took the Indian philosophy to the global audience. He represented India in the (Calcutta University) at the International Congress of Philosophy.

Radhakrishnan was an academician for most part of his career. He taught and wrote extensively on Indian philosophy. He was the vice chancellor of Andhra University at vizag.

When his students and friends wanted to celebrate his birthday as a celebrity’s birthday, Radhakrishnan requested them not to celebrate it as an individual’s glory, but as a day of celebration for all the teachers of this country.

Since then, September 5 is celebrated as the Teacher’s day in India. On this occasion, let us wish prosperity to all our teachers and request them to continue their showers of knowledge on us.
